Community Action Resource Association, otherwise known as C.A.R.A., is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that provides major ideas education and study.  We are dedicated to the tutoring, education and well-being of the economically disadvantaged youth that are ignored by society, located in the inner city of North Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Most of the families are one parent homes, where there is either no father, no mother or grandparents are the guardians. C.A.R.A. provides a safe environment for children to be empowered to be all they can be through our after school and summer programs.  These programs serve children in Kindergarten through the 6th grade.

Our after school program begins in the middle of September and finishes the end of May.  During the school year, we limit the number of children enrolled to 25-30 so we may serve each child effectively.  We have assistant and retired Teachers who will come to tutor in subjects like Math, Reading, Vocabulary, Spelling and Science.  A computer lab is provided to teach the children how to use and utilize computers.  C.A.R.A. also provides arts and crafts, dance, leadership development and group activities that allow the children to make decisions and examine individual choices.  Good Samaritan Health Services comes to teach the children every Wednesday as well.  Good Samaritan teaches them how to take vital signs, eat nutritiously, prevent obesity and what to do in case of heart attack or stroke.

The summer program runs from early June through early August.  We do not need the limitations placed on the after school program, so the number of children attending can increase drastically.  During the summer months, some events occur at C.A.R.A.’s facility, such as bible studies, games and family friendly movies.  Good Samaritan also continues their teachings once a week.  To give the children a strong Christian foundation, we take them to several Vacation Bible Schools in the Tulsa area during this time period.

In addition to the summer activities listed above, we take the children on several field trips. Places we go include, but are not limited to:  Gilcrease Museum, Blue Bell Ice Cream, the Police Department to learn about gang violence and crime prevention, the Fire Department to learn about fire safety and tour Station 24, Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, the pool at Lacy Park, First Tee Golf, the Tulsa Zoo and Camp Loughridge.

C.A.R.A. also reaches 50 families in the community monthly through food and clothes pantries.  Other services include obtaining furniture, preparing resumes, job research, sending faxes, making copies, writing letters and creating flyers for residences of Tulsa, Oklahoma.

As the Executive Director, Mr. Lewis Bumpers, Jr. has been on the Board of Directors since 1984.  C.A.R.A.’s Board of Directors consist of six members and two advisors.  This Board governs with integrity, truth and trust.  They also provide financial assistance, help raise funds at our annual banquet and much, much more.
